A Note About Using Tripsy in China

As passionate travellers ourselves, we want Tripsy to be the best it can be no matter where you're based or travelling to, unfortunately there are often some challenges based on regional issues and one of the biggest challenges is for our users who are based in, or travelling to, China.

The very simple reason for this is because there are major restrictions on the Apple Maps data within China, that prevents us getting results from outside of the region, or from displaying any travel routes when a user is within China.

In the past, we'd recommend VPNs to mitigate this issue, but it appears that more recent versions of iOS have made changes that use other methods to detect if a device is in China and despite our best efforts and discussions with Chinese users, we have not found any way to work around those particular restrictions.

However, all is not lost...

PRO Customers Get A Helping Hand

If you're a Tripsy PRO customer, we've put together an extra layer of help that allows us to get data from the Google Places API, and this should allow results to be shown within Tripsy.

Because there are costs involved in this, this does have to remain a feature exclusive to our PRO customers.

This doesn't, unfortunately, resolve the unavailability of route date, but it should at least help you add places to Tripsy.

The Share Sheet Option

Whilst the native search within Tripsy won't work when within China, we have heard that sharing locations from other map apps that can send location data into Tripsy does work and we've got a guide on how to use the share-sheet.
